This "city on stilts" included residential buildings, a canteen, a club, a power plant, and even green areas — all so that workers could live right next to oil production. In the context of post-war industrialization, the country needed resources, and construction became a symbol of the technological audacity of the era. At forty-two Oil Rocks are considered one of the world's first offshore oil production complexes and still remain a unique engineering phenomenon.
