Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦 Mostar is not just a city. It's a symbol. A city that has survived destruction, division, restoration and preserved its soul. The name "Mostar" comes from the word mostari, which means "guardian of the bridge", that's what the people who guarded the bridge over the Neretva River were called. And yes, we are talking about the very Old Bridge (Stari Most), which has become the hallmark of the city. The bridge was built in 1556 during the Ottoman Empire by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. This bridge connected the banks of the Neretva River for more than 400 years, until it was destroyed during the war in 1993. But in 2004, the bridge was rebuilt, literally stone by stone, and it again became a symbol of reconciliation, peace and hope.
