I've long dreamed of surfing in Sri Lanka, but I didn't want to just come “at random” and look for a school at the last moment. I am a fitness trainer, I love outdoor activities, and I understood that surfing is not only about getting on the board, but also about technique, balance, understanding the ocean, and preparing the body. I found Matreshka Surf from Russia, about two months before the trip. I really liked the club's approach: I pre-booked a program of 10 lessons, started watching their available video tutorials on technology, practiced balance on a balance board, and already understood the basics even before arriving in Sri Lanka. It turned out to be just a super solution, because neither in the first lesson nor further there was panic and a feeling of “I don't understand anything.” Victoria, right on the waves, once again reminded us with examples of how to properly hold the board in front of which waves, which is certainly not a theory, but a cool topic before each lesson with a new level. I took photos and videos of my progress as a keepsake, and afterward, the head coach and I discussed my mistakes on the layup and body movement mistakes after the 5th lesson on the video from the shore. I really liked that it was a Russian-speaking surfing school not far from Unawatuna, where I lived in Aralia and got there in 15 minutes for 500 rupees. At school, it's both calm and fun, they explain it in human language, and not just push you into the wave, as I saw from the neighbors and realized that I made the really right choice and didn't throw away money in an attempt to save money and there's nowhere to understand anything with other guys with smiles and fun, but in general everything is not like with by me). The lessons took place at Dewata Beach near Galle and Unawatuna — a very comfortable place for beginners, soft waves are not always, but it's even a great experience and the sandy bottom was very comfortable for me. I want to say separately about the atmosphere. I arrived alone and was worried that it would be boring or uncomfortable. As a result, I met very cool guys at the Matryoshka club, found a company with whom we then went to dinner, meet sunsets and travel around Sri Lanka. For me, it wasn't just surfing, but really a whole period of life and cool emotions. In 10 lessons, I became much more confident in the ocean, began to understand the waves, and felt a real buzz from surfing. Now I can take low waves on the line myself, and I clearly understand that without my coaches I would not have achieved such quick results in a two-week vacation. My heart is with you, my Matryoshka Doll. If you are looking for surfing in Sri Lanka for beginners, especially for girls, or if you are flying alone, I highly recommend Matreshka Surf

We had a family vacation in Sri Lanka and decided to try surfing with our 13-year—old teenage daughter. We chose Matreshka Surf and are very glad that we came here. We took a family format and a package of 5 lessons at Devata Beach, which is near Unawatuna, and it took us only 10 minutes to get there. It was important for us that it was safe and understandable in Russian, especially for a child, and everything is organized very competently here. The training takes place calmly, without fuss, everything is explained in simple language — how the ocean works, how to catch a wave, how to keep the balance. Already in the first classes, we managed to get on the board, and by the end of the course we felt confident in the water and even caught our waves on the foam ourselves, we still hadn't decided to go on the line alone, but with the support of the guys it was just great because it's a special feeling when you hover over the water like a bird. Special thanks for the atmosphere of Victoria, she helped throughout the entire stage of training in any matters — everyone was supportive and attentive to everyone. Thank you for the evening ritual of buns with ginger tea. Devata beach is ideal for training: sandy bottom, soft waves, safe conditions. We were in Veligama once-I didn't like it at all. We recommend this surf school for families and those who want not just to try, but to learn.

The surf school in Sri Lanka is just unrealistically cool. At first, we were completely led and coordinated by Victoria. She was always in touch a month before our arrival in Sri Lanka, helped us choose a package according to our wishes based on what we want to get from the lessons at the end of the training, and we were really shocked that we followed exactly the methodology that she developed for us. Everything was cordial without pressure and she solved all our issues (from buying a SIM card to buying souvenirs and tea home for gifts at the best prices where local) Thanks to her, we were on interesting excursions and diving all in Russian. The community from the school with Vika is very active, together with the team and other students they played board games, watched surfing movies and went for a walk to Galle Fort. Olga conducted a balance of board lessons and the first surf lessons, ideal for beginners, and when we switched to hard (we took 10 lessons with the whole family) we moved on to the Rajah and went to the linap. The whole school celebrated the New Year, Victoria conducted a fun program, Raja cooked delicious grilled shrimp and fish. Fireworks, dancing, music, laughter. It's our best new year out!
