The Poti Lighthouse is one of the oldest buildings in the city and the tallest navigation structure on the Black Sea coast of Georgia. The Poti Lighthouse was built in 1858, when Poti was declared a port city. The structure was made in 1862 in Great Britain, and in 1864, under the guidance of British engineers, it was delivered to Poti and assembled from cast slabs using bolts and nuts. In 2012, in the year of the lighthouse's 150th anniversary, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out. The height is 36.6 meters. The lighthouse's material is cast iron. The total weight is 126 tons. The illumination horizon is 17 nautical miles. The lighthouse has an active Fresnel catadioptric lens, a lens system developed by French physicist and engineer Augustin Jean Fresnel. The body is made of metal sections connected by bolts, which ensures the strength and reliability of the structure. A cast-iron spiral staircase of 160 steps leads from the base to the dome. On the first two floors there is a small museum with exhibits from the history of Georgian navigation and shipping.: old photographs, navigation devices, items of ship's equipment.
