A monument to 82 murdered children, made in full-size height of each. Marie Yucichelova created this sculpture in honor of their memory. On June 10, 1942, SS troops surrounded the village of Lidice in Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic). Without exception, the entire male population over the age of 16 (173 people) was shot. Lidice women (172 people) were sent and imprisoned to Ravensbruck concentration camp (60 of them died there). And the children... out of 105 children, only those who were less than a year old and those who were considered suitable for Germanization (Germanization) in the future were left. The remaining 82 children, whom the SS considered unsuitable for their purposes, were sent to a death camp in Chelmno (Poland) for extermination, they were gassed. By the morning of June 11, the village of Lidice had turned into empty ashes, all buildings were burned and destroyed. Adults died, children died, but their memory will remain forever thanks to the monument near the village of Lidice. 82 bronze figures - 40 boys and 42 girls - look at us and remind us of the brutality of the Nazi massacre and the horror of the war.
