A castle that has hosted many civilizations that have made Anatolia their homeland. For this reason, there are places of worship belonging to various religions around it. Excavation works are still continuing on it. When the excavations and restoration are completed, as well as when all the surrounding structures come to light, there will be a magnificent open-air museum. Before going into the history, let me state that the entries are free. According to historical sources, Harput Castle was founded by the Kingdom of Urartu in the 8th century BC. Since the 6th century BC, it has been under the rule of the Persians. Between the 1st century BC and the 11th century AD.'between the th century Decadence Decadence was the scene of great struggles between Parthian, Roman, Sassanid, Byzantine and Abbasids, 11. it continued under Byzantine rule until the end of the century. During this time, Ziata Castellum and Kharpete, the castle, called Hisn-ı Ziyad in Arabic, remained under the rule of the Seljuks in 1085, Artukoğulları in 1112, and Seljuk in 1234. The castle became the government center of Çubuk Bey, Artuklu Bey Belek Gazi and Seljuk Bey Alaeddin Keykubad and changed hands frequently between the Dulkadiroğulları and Akkoyunlu states in 1366. The castle was the center of government of Çubuk Bey, Artuklu Bey Belek Gazi and Seljuk Bey Alaeddin Keykub Dec. Harputlu Castle was captured by Hasan Bahadır Khan (Uzun Hasan), the Ruler of Akkoyunlu, in 1465 and taken under the administration of Akkoyunlu. The Harput Region and its Castle came under the administration of the Ottoman Empire in 1515 during the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim. Various legends are told about the Harput Castle. According to a rumor, due to the water shortage experienced during the construction of the castle, it is said that milk was used instead of water to prepare the mortar by order of the ruler of the time, so the castle was called “Milk Castle”. The contribution of the repairs made during the Artukluk Period to the preservation of Harput Castle, which consists of two parts, the inner castle and the outer walls, can be preserved to this day as an original structure. The castle was later repaired during the Dulkadiroğulları, Akkoyunlu and Ottoman Periods. The outer walls of the castle have been completely destroyed. The castle, which is built on Yalcin rocks and is very difficult to besiege, is a large neighborhood with a hospital, granary, mint, water cistern, arsenal, mosque and many civilian buildings.

Fefkulade with everything, my dear harputum, but history has been played on, cage-style wire fences have been removed inside the castle, things have been done that have nothing to do with history, and this has made me very sad, let them research the old historical story and tell it like this, instead of the new generation style they have done, concrete has been everywhere

The Urartians built the Harput Castle in a rectangular plan. It is located in the historical Harput neighborhood in the sister city Elazığ. According to the stories told, milk was added to the mortar instead of water when the castle was built, so its name is also known as "Milk Castle". Greetings from Yiğido to brotherly city Gakkoshes. 👋🏻
