Derebaşı Bends — Attempt No. 1. May 20, 2026 I decided to take a chance and drive the legendary Derebaşı Bends on my GS1250. I hoped that by the end of May the snow would have already gone down, but nature ordered otherwise. There was an incredible amount of snow, and the road was officially closed. Nevertheless, I have no regrets. The views are fantastic. When I approached the serpentines, they were completely covered by a cloud. I drove into it, and there was absolute silence, darkness, and a snow—covered road. It feels unreal, as if I've entered another world. It can be seen that the road is being cleared — special snow removal equipment is working. Most likely, the pass will open in a few weeks. By the way, I found out that there is an official KGM website where you can view the status of road openings in real time — a very useful thing, I advise you to check before traveling. Important: this road is definitely not for beginners. The steepest streamers, mud, slippery pavement — all this requires confident motorcycle ownership and appropriate experience. Be ready. I didn't have to turn around: I found a bypass road through the mountains nearby, went out to the Black Sea coast — the serpentines there also turned out to be gorgeous. So the trip was a one hundred percent success anyway. I definitely recommend this route, but when it gets warm and the pass opens. I'll definitely come back and drive it through.
