Phuket is full of mysterious places, and one of them is the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This is a little-known landmark, as it is located away from the popular beaches and resorts of the island, and tours from tour operators are not taken here, so we decided to get to this place ourselves by taxi. The Buddhist Temple of the Reclining Buddha, located in Talang District in Phuket, was founded in 1792 by the first king of the Chakri dynasty, Rama I. Wat Sri Sunthon Temple Complex is named after one of the heroine sisters who saved the island from the Burmese invasion. It is difficult not to notice the reclining Buddha here – this 29-meter sculpture is located not inside the temple, but directly on its roof. Such an unusual format immediately attracts attention. The Buddha's pose is considered to be a symbol of bliss and nirvana, the state in which he achieved enlightenment and after which he began to preach his teachings. The figure is painted in the traditional yellow color, like most of the Buddha statues in Thailand. You can see the Buddha not only from afar, but also climb the stairs to the right. There you can not only view the statue up close, but also look at the entire complex from the height of the building. Next to the temple, as is traditional for Buddhist shrines, there is a square with various sculptures guarding the peace of the Buddha. There is a Thai temple on the territory, made in a traditional style, however, unfortunately, it was also closed to visitors. When planning a visit to the temple, you should dress appropriately: your shoulders and knees should be covered. Admission is free, there are no restrictions on taking photos. If you want to tie a saisin thread on your wrist, put 20 baht in an envelope. It is believed that the amulet protects from evil spirits and grants wishes. My daughter and I had a thread of saysin tied around our wrists)))

A very atmospheric pagoda! You can climb the statue, there is no panoramic view from it, but you can see the Buddha himself and the park surrounding the pagoda, which, by the way, is very cozy and has many different interesting sculptures. Monks are incredibly forgiving and good-natured. Perhaps it is not worth driving purposefully, if you are not interested in such a culture, then it is worth stopping by!

There are really only a couple of reviews about the Buddha actually lying here, all the other reviews about the Big Buddha, which is much further south and on the mountain. There are several small temples and a statue of a Reclining Buddha, which you can get close to by climbing a ladder. Nicely. Everything can be bypassed in 10-15 minutes. There is a toilet.
