In Soviet times, the ancient fortress of Erebuni, founded by the Urartian king Argishti, was excavated on Arin-Berd hill. This is the ancestor of Yerevan. Almost 30 years older than Rome, it seems to me that this is the oldest city in the former USSR and the CIS. It takes 20-25 minutes to drive from the center. There is an interesting museum at the entrance (entrance fee is 3000 AMD) with beautiful artifacts from different eras from the Indo-European conquerors, to Urartian and Hellenistic such as spearheads, metal swords, knives, cups and ceramics. The maps and descriptions are all very interesting. On the side of the entrance to the museum there is a long staircase up to the hill itself, where there are remains of the fortress walls and ruins of the interior, and even stones with cuneiform texts telling about the foundation of the fortress. Everything is very picturesque. It's hot and sweltering. History seemed to stop in these stones. A must-see for tourists who love history and archaeology. Here you understand how ancient the Armenian people are

A historical place. A must-visit. It will not be possible to get full pleasure from visiting it - the guides work only in the museum, and, most importantly, the ruins of the old city are overgrown with impenetrable plants. Question: why is there no proper care for this monument?

Of course, it would be wrong to visit Yerevan and not visit the place where this city began. Travelers should be prepared for the fact that only ruins remain from the fortress of the 7th century BC. Some of them, however, were reconstructed back in Soviet times. It is a pity and a shame that modern vandals scratch and spoil the restored walls of the palace. And yet it is clear that even in ancient times there was a powerful civilization here. Plus, the hill offers a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding mountains of Yerevan.
