I recommend getting there by public transport. This enhances the experience, especially after the ferry crossing. It is recommended to take a taxi back along the equally famous bridge.

The main attraction of Lisbon. One of several statues of Christ similar in Rio de Janeiro. There is a large free parking lot. Take the elevator up. Upstairs there is an observation deck with panoramic views of Lisbon, a souvenir shop where you can buy a large-scale replica of the statue. I recommend.

The history of the creation of the shrine began in 1934, when Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon Manuel Goncalves Serejeira visited Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), he was struck by the monument of Christ the Redeemer, which was opened in 1931. The Patriarch was so inspired that he certainly decided to build a similar monument in Lisbon. The giant cement statue was erected in 1959 as a sign of gratitude that the Portuguese were spared the consequences of World War II. To this day, Christ (Cristo Rei) with open arms seems to protect the city from troubles.
