The beautiful building adjacent to the Bridge of Sighs is not a palace, but a prison. It is called, however, the prison palace in Italian. Prisoners from the Doge's Palace were led across the closed Bridge of Sighs after being sentenced to imprisonment. Therefore, the sighs here were not from beauty, but from the loss of freedom! When visiting the Doge's Palace, you automatically cross this bridge and visit prisons. They make a special impression, especially in contrast to the gold and wealth of the Doge's palace. But during the year, the Venice Biennale expositions are often placed in the prison palace, you can visit them without paying and see part of the prison palace, without prisoners' cells. But it's also interesting. The Biennale runs from May to November.
