Villa d’Este is not a villa, it is a palace. A palace with frescoes, moldings and carved ceilings that you want to look at separately. Everything is made for the ages, with so many details that you just start walking and looking up. The main feature is fountains. We were on a day when the water was not turned on, so the ticket was 10 euros cheaper. Even without water, the fountain of Neptune and all the cascades look large-scale, but, of course, with the fountains working, the effect would be completely different. Everything is neat, clean, intimate. And yes, there are ashtrays even on the territory of the museum — Italy remains Italy, a smoking country. It's definitely worth going to Tivoli for her, but there's nothing else to do in the city.

A very impressive masterpiece !!!!! Despite the fact that this unique ensemble is located at some distance from Rome (by taxi 50 euros approximately 35 min or by train 55 min) I recommend everyone to visit. Taking your time, you can safely spend half a day there. There are the nicest cafes and restaurants in the neighboring streets.
