The self-propelled artillery gun ACS 2S9 Nona-C was created at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Precision Engineering (Tsniitochmash) and the Design Bureau of the Perm Machine-Building Plant named after Lenin, based on the chassis of a floating tracked armored personnel carrier BTR-D. The installation became the first in the world capable of firing using both high-explosive fragmentation mines and special high-explosive fragmentation shells. The 2C9 can move not only by land, but it is a floating and amphibious vehicle by landing or parachuting from aircraft such as the An-12, AN-22 and IL-76. The 2C9 ACS was produced in 1979-1987.
